Social Security Payments: The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that the second round of April 2025 payments will be distributed on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. These payments include a 2.5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), implemented earlier this year to help retirees manage rising costs for essential goods and services
Who Will Receive the April 16 Payment?
This payment is for retirees whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of any month. The SSA schedules payments based on birth dates, with this group receiving their benefits on the third Wednesday of each month.
Additional Increases for Certain Retirees
In addition to the COLA, some retirees will see further increases due to the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, which repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). This change primarily benefits public servants such as teachers, police officers, and firefighters, who previously experienced reductions in their Social Security benefits. Approximately 3.2 million individuals affected by WEP and GPO are now entitled to retroactive payments averaging $6,710, dating back to January 2024.
Payment Schedule Overview
For April 2025, the SSA’s payment schedule is as follows:
- April 3: Beneficiaries who began receiving benefits before May 1997.
- April 9: Retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- April 16: Retirees born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- April 23: Retirees born between the 21st and 31st of the month.
To ensure timely receipt of benefits, the SSA encourages beneficiaries to sign up for direct deposit or use the Direct Express debit card. This approach helps avoid delays associated with paper checks, which are being phased out in favor of digital payments.
